I share similar views, it is the risk of a fight between old and new oligopolies. The Australian case (like the Spanish one before wrt Google news) seems to indicate that a single country, especially a small one in terms of population (hence of business), cannot compete against such giants. Over here, it seems that the right size is at least the EU.
This makes the Microsoft-EU alliance all the more interesting. Even though the EU is large enough to fend for itself, perhaps adding a private actor to the equation will give the EU a larger competitive advantage.
